Question about components in a list

Hey guys, I am trying to create a tool for my level designer that would allow him to dynamically spawn managers for his scenes.

     [SerializeField] List<Object> lManagersThatSpawnAtStart = new List<Object>();
     //..
         foreach(Object component in lManagersThatSpawnAtStart)
         {
             GameObject newComponent = new GameObject();
             newComponent.name = component.name.ToString();

             //How the hell can I attach "component" to it?!

         }

Basically I want

 newComponent.AddComponent<component>();

It's lost on me how I can attach it from the list to the empty game object, Can you please help me :)

What is the class of the component you want to add?

It's a bit unclear what you intend to do from this question, because the kinds of classes you're using are unclear. If you're wanting references to Components before they're attached to GameObjects, you can't do that as far as I know. Components are designed to be attached to GameObjects. If that's a limitation you don't want, then you need to inherit from a different class. Perhaps ScriptableObject?

If you're wanting to define an in-Editor List of arbitrary objects to be used as managers, then you need to ensure their classes are marked with the System.Serializable attribute. This exposes those classes to the Inspector. From there, to expose that class' fields to the Inspeector, you need to mark those fields with the Serializable attribute (if they're private), or just make them public.

Also, just covering all bases here, but you can only use GameObject's AddComponent() method with classes derived from Component.

you could try to use GetType method on your object's instance

So what you actually want is something like:

 newComponent.AddComponent(component.GetType().ToString());

or directly in the constructor:

 GameObject newComponent = new GameObject(component.name.ToString(), component.GetType());

Use the Activator class:

 System.Activator.CreateInstance(Type.GetType("ComponentType"));

Remember the use the full qualified name of your ComponentType.

Here's the Activator class reference
