Question by Afassolas · Jun 02, 2015 at 11:32 AM · graphicsgraphics cardemulation

Unity 5 does not recognize my GeForce GTX980 DX 11 ready

Hello I have a GeForce GTX980 with 4GB which is a DX11 ready card (actually even DX11.1) even though on the top window of the Unity editor It says dx11 , when I go to Edit > Graphics Emulation Unity only shows me up to Shader Model 3. I know the card supports up to Shader Model 5 but I can't see any option for that. Any help ?

Thank you

Graphic emulation is to emulate older device and see what happens.

You could check your system with this :

 #pragma strict

 var infoDeviceModel : String;
 var infoDeviceType : DeviceType;
 var infoGraphicDeviceName : String;
 var graphicsDeviceVersion : String;
 var graphicsMemorySize : int;
 var graphicsMultiThreaded : boolean;
 var graphicsShaderLevel : int;
 var operatingSystem : String;
 var processorCount : int;
 var supportsImageEffects : boolean;
 var supportsRenderTextures : boolean;
 var supportsStencil : int;
 var systemMemorySize : int;

 function Start () {
 infoDeviceModel = SystemInfo.deviceModel;
 infoDeviceType = SystemInfo.deviceType;
 infoGraphicDeviceName=SystemInfo.graphicsDeviceName;
 graphicsDeviceVersion =SystemInfo.graphicsDeviceVersion;
 graphicsMemorySize =SystemInfo.graphicsMemorySize;
 graphicsMultiThreaded =SystemInfo.graphicsMultiThreaded;
 graphicsShaderLevel =SystemInfo.graphicsShaderLevel;
 operatingSystem =SystemInfo.operatingSystem;
 processorCount =SystemInfo.processorCount;
 supportsImageEffects =SystemInfo.supportsImageEffects;
 supportsRenderTextures=SystemInfo.supportsRenderTextures;
 supportsStencil=SystemInfo.supportsStencil;
 systemMemorySize =SystemInfo.systemMemorySize;

 }

So I have to set no shader emulation for the current graphics card ?

The emulation is there to show whether features would break and/or become unavailable when rendering with hardware/software which doesn't support all possible features. (for instance, objects using shaders requiring greater hardware support would turn pink)

Therefore, there's no need to have emulation options for the current top-end. If you don't have access to those features, you can't emulate forward in hardware supported features, anyway.
