Using a sprite to set game boundaries

I want to set a sprite as the "boundaries" for my game -- ie the players cannot move beyond the space defined by the sprite. How would I do so? The sprite is a ship and I don't want my players to fall into the water. I would normally just edit the polygon collider 2d to create a space in the middle of the ship (or edge collider 2d) but the ship sprites are procedurally generated so the manual method is impossible.

You could try getting the renderer component of your sprite and using the bounds property. However, I recall in the past I had some difficulty with this since you can't always get exact results (rotation, camera size, spite scale all factor in).
