My character doesn't animate when I try to move him

When I try to move my character the animation that is supposed to play doesn't play until 4 or 5 seconds after I keep on holding the moving key. However when the animations finally plays I can press the other button to sprint and it plays the sprint animation after half a second. I tried to attach a 20 sec video for reference but the website did not allow it because it said that it was too big.
