Unity 5 (Either 5.0.x or 5.1.x) never crashed on my PC or $$anonymous$$ac, so there is something wrong, either with your OS, or instalation or PC...

Hellium is right, we need a lot more information. To start with: what version of Windows, which version(s) of Unity, and is it crashing before prompting you for a project, or after? Did you ever get the window that appears the very first time you run Unity 5, asking you to log in and select whether to run Professional or Personal edition?

You should also see if you can open the editor's logfile. This link tells you where it was for Unity 4, not sure if it is still there: http://answers.unity3d.com/questions/9739/how-can-i-find-editor-log-file.html

Do you happen to have Astrill (a VPN client) installed on your system? It always crashes my Unity on startup.

If you have Lavasoft Web Companion installed, remove it, and you are going to delete a file called : LavasoftTcpService.dll (if your computer is 64 bit, also remove : LavasoftTcpService64.dll)

Same problem here. Here is what you need to do:

Hold Ctrl key and click on the "Help" menu and select "Hard Exclude Apps". Input the names for Unity executable files.

I had a crash upon startup when starting from the unity icon. It worked however when I started my scene file. Do not know why, but worked.
